The Marais — Paris's 3rd and 4th arrondissements — is the historic Jewish quarter that became the city's LGBTQ+ neighborhood in the 1980s. Today rue des Archives, rue du Temple, and rue Sainte-Croix de la Bretonnerie are lined with gay bars, saunas, boutiques, and cafe terrasses. Paris has always been a refuge for queer artists — Oscar Wilde lived here, Gertrude Stein held her salon nearby. The Marche des Fiertés (Paris Pride) in June fills the streets with hundreds of thousands celebrating with that unmistakable Parisian élan.
